I've had this book for a few months now. It's extremely good for those just starting out with programming or for those that have dabbled in other languages but never with real x86 assembly. Thankfully this book guides you through programming in Linux which uses the protected flat memory model (explained in the book) which is VASTLY better than the old MSDOS model of programming. It will take you from inside basics, through requisite base conversions and such. It's just a beginning, where you end up is up to you!
