ISBN 978-969-9098-42-0During the British Raj, Captain George Stack was the first Englishman who had prepared the Sindhi-English and English-Sindhi dictionaries for the government functionaries, who were directed to learn Sindhi in order to use it as the official language of Sindh. He had used Devanagari character for writing Sindhi words. According to the publisher Mr. B. S. Ellis, He adopted the character merely as one generally known to those officers who might be supposed to be the persons most likely to use these books and not with any view to its permanent adoption by Sindhis. Had I myself been required to decide the point, I do not think I should have adopted the same character.
Whatever the reason may have been, the fact of the matter is that the majority of the people of Sindh could not benefit much from these dictionaries due to their Devanagari script; and these had become rare books till very recently. But now, even after being available on the internet, these could not be of much use for the students and general public unless the script was not changed to the current Arabic-Sindhi script.
